Only Believe - He Is Our Mediator, Our Go-Between, Our Vanguard - Our Wonderful Savior!
I John 2:1 states: "My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous".
In a story told so many years ago, an old man sat on the stone wall to the White House during the dark days of the Civil War. There were tears streaming down his wrinkled cheeks. His work-worn hands trembled and fumbled with a blue handkerchief he was using to mop up his welling eyes.
A little boy ran past, rolling a hoop and at the sight of the old man he stopped and childishly questioned why he was so grieved.
The old man replied: "They will not let me in to see the President, and my boy is going to be shot. President Lincoln is the only one who can save him."
The boy replied eagerly: "I'll take you in, they can't keep me out, for I'm Tad Lincoln. Come with me."
The old man and the little boy advocate went bravely past the frowning guards to the very presence of him who could and did save the man's son".
When John so lovingly addressed us through the Holy Ghost as: "My little children", he reminded us of a promise that we so often forget in our daily walk that the "battle is the Lord's!"
Only He can lead us safely through the Valley of the Shadow of Death. As the "Author and the Finisher" of our faith, Only He can assure our safety in every circumstance and through every situation. When the tide seems to turn against us, and we forget that we "live by faith and not by sight", only He can counter all the "fiery darts of the wicked" and bring us safely through to the end of our life-long journey to Heaven.
His continuous pleading and advocacy before the Father, on our behalf, drive back the hordes of hell and every attempt by the devil to thwart our onward march to glory.
When we fully understand that our lives are not in our own hands, but fully in the hands of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, we will then understand why our salvation is completely secure and why we need not worry anymore but need Only Believe.
A prayer for today: "Father, through my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, increase my faith, that I will trust you without doubt and without fear, and will go through each day believing you are with me always and will forever see me through until I rest and live with you in eternity."
Amen.
